Rugby 7s took another step in the right direction following its inclusion in the 2016 Olympics in Rio, as the Ultimate Rugby 7s, an independent promoter for Rugby 7s, announced the launch of the first ever UK National Sevens Series.

The UK National Sevens Series, which has been approved by the Rugby Football Union, will build on the increasing popularity of Rugby 7s and will be played in June and July 2010, in London, Bath, Manchester and Newquay. “The announcement of the UK National Series is a huge step forward for Rugby Sevens in the UK,” said Ben Ryan, England Rugby Union Sevens coach and RFU National Academy Coach. “It will give Sevens a stronger platform in this country and give increased opportunities for more players to experience this great sport.”

Tim Lacey, Founder & CEO of Ultimate Rugby Sevens stated that “Today’s announcement marks Ultimate Rugby Sevens’ intention to lead the way in a new era for the sport with a pioneering property that will bring increased structure and direction to the UK Sevens season.”

2 invitation sides will join the 10 core teams at each event, as they battle it out for individual and overall honours.
