SAMOA TRIUMPH IN LAS VEGAS PDF Print E-mail

Samoa triumphed in the Las Vegas leg of the IRB Sevens series, beating New Zealand 33-12 in the final.

Having reached the final of the NZI Sevens in Wellington the week before, only to be narrowly defeated by rivals Fiji, Samoa were fired up for their final and ran in 5 tries on their way to victory. Notably Alafoti Fa'osiliva and Mikaele Pesamino both scored doubles in a final that Samoa comfortably won.

The road to the final was not so easy for the Islanders who came from behind to beat current World Champions Wales in the quarter finals. While in the semi-final they had to battle it out with Australia, narrowly edging out the Australians to win by 14-12.

Elsewhere in the competition England suffered a narrow defeat to the increasingly powerful Kenya in the quarter finals of the Cup, setting up a tie with last year's series winners South Africa in the semi-final of the plate. South Africa were the stronger team winning 27-14 and went onto win the plate after defeating Fiji in the final.

The USA side enjoyed some great form on home soil and delighted home fans by winning the final of the Bowl competition against France 28-17.
